Schools may be so small that it is difficult for administrators to arrange pupils in classes according to their level. High ability pupils are obliged to join these of lover ability in other cases it is the conscious choice of the school administration to mix abilities in order to encourage qualities such as compassion and corporation. For many teachers teaching mixed ability classes is a routine part of their work, no matter whether they or their pupils see the benefit of it. In fact, in some classes there can be a huge difference between levels. Reason for and against One option is to place weaker pupils with more able ones ether in pairs of small groups it is true that trying to explain a topic to another person helps to understand more clearly and pupils trying to understand from the perspective of another person helps with compassion.
