Spending large amounts of time on the Internet without any purpose in mind is a gateway to watching porn. Avoid any sexual material (even if it results in just imagination). Avoid excessive social media, which can lead to a whole host of negative emotions. In particular, avoid viewing pictures of people you are attracted to. This is bad conditioning for your mind. It deemphasizes human interaction and creates false ideals. In general, try to spend less time on the computer and mobile devices overall. Realize that they are just a tool to make life easier; don’t let them become reality. There is too much content that overstimulates the mind, an excess of videos, images, and news that the human brain is not designed to process. Combine this with the large amount of even slightly sexual content, as well as the mental rush from finding new things, and this is a dangerous situation for a porn addict to be in. Try to avoid multitasking In recovery, try to keep your mental load to a minimum. Avoid artificial stimulation, whether it be caffeinated or alcoholic beverages, or intense music or television. Music is often very sexual in its content, from the rhythms to the lyrics, and many songs have the same beats per minute as the human heartbeat or the pace during sex. These effects can be subliminal and take place on a subconscious level. After you finish watching TV or listening to music, you may want to seek out more stimulating content. With multitasking, it becomes more difficult to focus and be present in the moment. It is mentally hard to do multiple things at the same time and is generally unsustainable over longer periods of time. It can overstimulate the mind and increase its impulsiveness while diminishing its patience. Multitasking situations are stressful and taxing on your brain, ultimately unhealthy in the long run.
