Teaching and sharing
They say the best way to learn something is by teaching it. This applies especially to porn addiction,
which is a complicated problem that requires thoughtfulness and a thorough understanding to purge
it from your life.
As you progress in your recovery, one thing you can do is teach what you know about addiction to
others. This can be in the form of sharing recovery advice with other people or chronicling your own
experiences and what has worked for you. There are many ways to contribute and share this
information, such as contributing to discussions and blog posts, helping others online or in person,
sharing your progress, or raising awareness about the problem.
When you teach something, you won’t want to be a charlatan or a hypocrite. You will be more
compelled to follow your advice and hold yourself accountable, helping yourself quit porn. Any
advice you share will be preceded by a thoughtful analysis and reflection, which will help you
improve on your approaches when you analyze what has and hasn’t worked for you, as well as why.
You may even find or think of better ways to recover.
Master the art of firmly saying no
Do only what you want to do. Agreeing to everything makes you mentally weak. You don’t want to
be constantly dragged into things that you don’t want to do. To have control of the situation and
avoid doing what you don’t want to do, you have to say no. This applies to porn also.
Practice using your discretion and exercise your willpower. Avoid being at the whims of other people
or the situation. This builds mental strength and discipline, while also improving clarity of thought.
Ultimately it gives you the strength as a contrarian and independent thinker to make the best
decisions and achieve the best life outcomes. Realize that one of the hardest things to do is to be
yourself when in a crowd.
