Signed Au Sepux. 20th century. H. 58 cm. DKK 25.000 / € 3.400 1775 A large ship model of Zar Nicolai II of Russian's yacht "Standart" built of wood and metal etc. with several de- tails, e.g. the stern is decorated with the Russian Empe- rial double eagle. 20th century. H. 72. B. 36. L. 210 cm. In 1893 Zar Alexander III of Russia ordered an emperial yacht at the Burmeister & Wain ship building yard in Copen- hagen, Denmark. The ship was named Standart and very soon became world famous because its size, effective engine and beauty. Standart was undoubtedly built in Copenhagen because Alexander III was married to the Empress Maria Fjo- dorovna, nee Princess Dagmar of Denmark, and she willingly supported Danish trade and industry. Alexander III died in 1894 and therefore it was the son, Zar Nikolai II, who took over the emperial yacht in 1896, when it was finished. Indeed, it was a sailing palace, with several drawing rooms, a dining hall, a church and even a cowhouse. The emperial family en- joyed spending their summer holidays on board Standart visi- ting the families in Denmark, Great Britain, Germany or when they sailed to their summer palace at the Crimea. After the Russian revolution in 1917 Standart had a storied de- stiny which is still not completely solved. The official Russian version is that Standart in 1961 was used as a target during missile exercises in The Baltic Sea. Nevertheless, the Russians are still looking for Standart, because it might in fact have sunk during the exercises. By the launch in 1896 there was built two ship's models of Standart - one for the ship building yard Burmeister & Wain in Copenhagen and another for the yacht itself. The model that belonged to the ship building yard is now placed at the museum DieselHouse in Copenhagen, while the other ship's model has disappeared. The present was ship's model is built during 1893-1896 by one of the employees at the Burmeister & Wain ship building yard.
