Allusionis an indirect mention of some word or utterance from some book or event. Usually the reference to the source of the historical, literary or mythological fact is not given. Sometimes allusion is the only key which is used in the text to understand the whole meaning of this text. By this allusion differs from a quotation. Let's see the following example: "Good god", said Demoyte. Is that all you've done, in the last two hours? ... At this rate you'll be with us for years. But perhaps that's what you want — like Penelope, never finishing her work?" In this case allusion is made to Homer's "Odyssey". Allusions may be used in different functional styles: Here is an example of allusion used ina newspaper headline: The Plains in Spain are a Bit of a Pain. It is a reference lo a well-known phrase from B. Shaw's play "Pygmalion" (Rains in Spain fall mainly in the plain). In order to get adequate information about the use of allusion in the text reader must be acquainted with the essence of this allusion, to know the source from which it was taken.
Compare the following allusions based on the use of mythological proper names: He was a perfect Herculesin strength; He has the voice of Orpheus; the lute of Apollo. Very often allusion is based on the names of some historical places, facts, events, names of people who arc some how connected with these events. "Caesar of course, had a little place at Vallon — a camp or entrenchment, or something of that sort. Caesar was a regular up-river man. Also Queen Elizabeth, she was there too ... Cromwell and Brad show (not the guide man but the king Charles’s head man) likewise sojourned here. They must have been quite a pleasant little party, altogether.
In this extract the author mentions the names of famous people: Caesar, Queen Elizabeth, Cromwell, and King Charles who bad once visited a very small town in England— Valton.
We distinguish two structural types of allusion. The first type: when allusion is realized through one word or a word combination. In this case the reference is made to certain famous names, events or facts: Henry VIII, Ann Boylein, Queen Victoria, Prince Albert, Vaterloo. The second type of allusion is realized through its interpretation, so to say explanation given in the text:I thought of hobgoblins and banshees, and will — c' — the wisp, those wicked girls who sit up all night on rocks, and lure people into whirl pools and things". In this text Jerome K. Jerome makes a reference to mythological and mysterious images and spirits: hobgoblins (mischievous imp, ugly and evil spirits) banshee (used mostly in Ireland and the Scottish Highlands, a spirit whose cry is said to mean that there will be a death in the house where the cry is heard», will — d the — map (moving light seen at night over marshy ground; something or somebody that is difficult to grasp or reach). The word combination "wicked girls" is a reference to mermaids -— mythological images of women with a fish's tail in place of legs, water nymphs. The stylistic function of allusion is various; either to make the comparison, or to produce a humorous effect.
Аллюзия— бутарихий, адабий, мифологик, динийвамаишийёкимашҳурасарлардагидалилларгатаянишдир. Муаллифўзасаридааллюзияниқўллагандауникитобхонгатанишдеббиладиваунгаизоҳбермайди, шухусусиятибиланаллюзияҳаволадан фарқ қилади. Ҳаволада бировнинг фикри сўзма-сўзқайтарилади. Аллюзияда эса сўз ёки ибора эслатиб ўтилади, холос:
"Ана қурувчиларнинг уйлари — карвонлари,
Шудир эртаклардаги қуёш шаҳри, эҳтимол".

Ҳар баҳор шундай — ҳар баҳор шу манзара такрорланади.”


Биринчи мисолда шоир О.Матжон Компанелланинг "Қуёш шаҳри" асари номини аллюзия сифатида ишлатган. Иккинчи мисолда эса Ҳ.Олимжоннинг "Ўрик гуллаганда" шеьридан У.Умарбеков ўз шеърига бир қаторини аллюзия қилиб олган. Агар жамоатчиликка унча маълум бўлмаган аллюзия ишлатилса, бу аллюзияга изоҳ бўлиши шарт.
Тез-тез қўлланиладиган аллюзиялар фразеологияга айлана боради. Аллюзия ҳар хил функционал услубларда қўлланилади, асосан уларни бадиий наср услубларида, рўзнома саҳифаларида тез-тез учратиш мумкин. Масалан, рўзномаларда "Тоққа чиқмасанг дўлона қайда..." тарзидага capлавҳалар ишлатилади.
Аллюзия стилистик усул сифатида қўшимча маълумот бериш хусусиятига эга. Бу маълумот фақат муаллиф томонидан берилади. Бу маълумотнинг асосий қисми матндан ташқарида бўлиб, уни тушуниб етиш китобхон билимининг бойлигига боғлиқ."Саодат" ойномасида чоп этилган мақолада қуйидаги аллюзияни кўриш мумкин.
... Бу — нисбатан ривожланган катта шаҳарларимиздаги бир манзара. Ҳар қалай, аёл бу ерда бояги юмушларининг унча-мунчасига улгуради ...
Қишлоқда-чи7 "Шаҳар билан қишлоқ орасидаги тафовутлар кун сайин йўқолиб бораётган" қишлоқда-чи?”Бу ерда қўштирноққа олинган гаплар ўз вақтида кўп айтилиб ўтган ва кўп ижтимоий дастурларга киритилган, аммо бажарилмаган шиорни эслатади ва албатта муаллифнинг бунга салбий муносабатини кўрсатади.
Аллюзиянинг стилистик вазифаси хилма-хилдир: ўхшатиш қандайдир далил юзасидан кинояли тасвир яратиш ва б.қ.
