Teaching writing on the topic of Theatres for the pre intermediate

What you will need:
The class of the students
What to do:

  • Get students to write about an unusual experience they have had – something the other students would never know about.

  • Students should put their names on their stories and give their story a title.

  • Collect and read them out one by one.

  • Students can write down the title and decide who they think wrote each story.

This works best with a class whose students know each other a little, but not well enough to make the activity redundant.
Activity 3: Word dictation
Students should write the words with correct spelling without mistakes on the board.
What you will need:
The list of the words appropriate for the learners’ level.
What to do:

  • Tell students that they will play a game for spelling.

  • Divide the class into two or three groups.

  • From each group one student comes to the board and writes down the word told by teacher.

  • The student who writes the word with correct spelling without mistakes gains a point for his or her group.

  • The group which gains the most of the points wins.

In this way students will increase their awareness of the importance of correct spelling in the writing work. They will improve their vocabulary skill and will make less mistakes in the writing process. Teacher will check the knowledge and level of the students.
Activity 4: Describing a picture
Students in pair will describe the picture in written form.
What you will need:
Different pictures which can attract learners’ attention.
What to do:

  • Bring the pictures to the class and show them to the students.

  • Ask them what they think about the pictures.

  • After listening to their opinions divide them into pairs and give one picture to the pair.

  • Ask them to describe the given picture in written form. Some of the pictures can be repeated for another pair of students.

  • Tell them to write in particular genre.

  • In the end ask them to read to the rest of the class.

The activity helps develop students’ creativity and imagination. Students will practice writing in specific genre.
Activity 5: Exercise for correcting mistakes
In this exercise students will try to correct the capitalization mistakes in the sentences.
