M. charantia bMAP30 aMCL lectin is an anti-HIV protein of M. charantia with a mass of
30 kDa; a protein that inactivates cRIP ribosomes; *is related to antimicrobial activity.
Charantin is one of the biologically active compounds found in all parts of the plant,
especially in fruits. Charantin improves blood sugar levels by increasing glucose uptake and
glycogen synthesis in the liver, muscles and fat cells. It also enhances the release of insulin from
pancreatic beta cells and restores or promotes new growth of insulin-secreting beta cells. It was
found that the alcohol extract of charantin is a more effective antidiabetic agent than tolbutamide,
sometimes used in the treatment of diabetes [14]. Charantin is reported to be an anti-HIV protein
[15].
In addition, the authors described the content of some macro and microelements in various
components of momordica phytomass grown in the Siberian Botanical Garden is given below in
Tables 6,7,8,9 [39].
Table 6. The content of some macronutrients in various components of phytomass
(average ± error of average, based on dry phytomass) [39].
