3. Choosing Your Niche
49
“How popular is this niche?”
Ideally, you’re after a niche that’s not too popular. You
want to choose a niche that
has sufficient interest and product demand to sustain a retail business. Often, you
will have to compromise, and it’s a matter of knowing how to compromise.
When conducting niche research, if you can tell right away
that a niche is incredibly
popular, be warned that it may be difficult to break into. As a new dropshipper,
you’ll face the challenge of getting your brand seen, and it’s
much easier in a lower
competition niche (even though bigger niches may be tempting and seem easy).

The niche evaluation steps in this chapter will help you find a good niche that’s not
too empty or too crowded. And in Chapter 4, when you research products, you’ll
get an even more detailed idea of how popular your chosen niche is.
