MA’JUN (Eng. wine) – It is a mild stimulant made from plants. It was repeated in more than 50 contexts in Baburname “(Umarshikh Mirza) wanted ma’jun more lately. [“B”, p.7]. “Majunnok” – It is under the effect of ma’jun. “roamed about the flower beds under effect of ma’jun” [“B”, p.232]. Babur also started drinking ma’jun (perhaps to reduce the pain of malaria) after 1508. “Xeyli safoliq va havoliq er edi, ma’jun ixtiyor qilib, bir zamon anda o’lturuildi” there was much fresh and clean air, I set there fop a while eating ma’jun” [“B”, on folio.222]. Ma’juni – one who consumed ma’jun, a boozy.

MAJUN SUHBATI (Eng. Ma’jun talks) – It is a special event in order to consume ma’jun: “… got into camp late. Thinking I had been drinking “araq (vodka)” Muhammadi and Gadai had said to one another, "Let's do befitting service," lifted a jug of “araq” up to one another in turn on their horses, and came in saying with wonderful joviality and heartiness and speaking together, "Through this dark night have we come carrying this jug in turns! “Later on it became known to them that talking is different and spirit is different: everyone was fed with ma’jun and everyone was drunk. They were much disturbed because never does a “ma’jun” party go well with a alcohol drinking-party. [“B”, on folio.227].
Babur’s kind humanly manner is evident in this event as he said: “Don’t stop the talking! Let those who wish to drink “araq”, drink “araq”; let those who wish to eat “ma’jun”, eat “ma’jun”. Let no-one upset the other one." Some drank “araq”, some ate “ma’jun”, and for some time the party went on quite politely. Later on all gone bad, especially ma’jun eaters started spoiling the conversation. It ended bad and all gone separate ways. In depiction of this event Babur showed his brilliant humanistic behavior. He didn’t prohibit drinking alcohol although he hated it in order not to spoil the party. There was depicted one of such parties in the ghazal beginning with “Tunokun birla but un majlisi asru hush edi”. P17

MA’MUL – Arabic word for “the invention created suddenly”. Babur outlining the rhyme structure “hazaji musamma” to “solim” invented special unique pattern of rhyme in the ghazal by Alishe Navai beginning with words “ Junun sham’in qilur ravshan, ko’ngulga telbalikdur fan, / Paridek bo’lg’ali parranda ul sho’hi pari paykar” (from “Navodirush-shabob”). He wrote that “the third syllable of the ghazal is not rhyming with “parranda” but “rhymed a part of it “parran” [“A”, p. 108] p17

MA’MUN (Ma’mun ibn Horun ar-Rashid) Eng. Mamun Ibn Harun ar-Rashid) – I. He was one of the royal representatives of the dynasty of the Abbasids. He was khalifa (king of Islamic country) of Khurasan, son of famous king Harun ar-Rashid. He ruled Khurasan between 809-819 years of A.D. He sat on the throne in 813 in Bagdad. He paid great attention to development of science in the country, founded the Academy of Science of Bagdad, famous with name of “Baitul-hikma”. There were well-known Uzbek scientists such as Muhammad Musa Harazmi and Ahmad Fargani in that Academy. The name of Khalifa Ma’mun was mentioned while there was given information about Ulughbek observatory in “B”. “It became clear that khalifa Ma’mun built observatory and compiled the “Ziji Ma’muniy (star table of Ma’mun)”. [“B”, on folio.46]. The Mamun observatory was constructed in Bagdad in 828 years.
II. Mamun Ibn Mamun (1009- 1017) – He was the third king of the dynasty of Khawarizm-Shakhs dynasty. He was the king of Khawarizm and established an Academy looked like to Ma’mun’s by the advice of Ibn Iraq, Beruni and Masikh, but it was not mentioned in Baburname

MA’MURA – Arabic word for “country, lands or territory”. It meant only the territory which was inhabited and improved. “So long as there was no cultivation along it, the Khirilchi and other Afghan thieves used to make it their beat, but it has become safe since I had it peopled at Qara-tu, below Quruq-sai.” [“B”, on folio 132 a].

MA’RAKA – the Arabic word used in Baburnama in the meaning of “battle, fight or military march”. “He had much courage. He was good to use sword, and they say that in some battle there was no soldier equal to him” [“B”, on folio 18 b].
