• Students find photos of three adverts from magazines or the internet.
In their descriptions, encourage students to explain what the advert is for and how the advert makes people want the product. Ask students to give their opinion on whether or not the adverts are effective.
• This could be set for homework.
Optional activity: Speaking
Put students in groups of three and tell them they are going to create a TV advert in English. Tell them they can make up their own advert, or use ideas from adverts they have seen on TV in their own country. Tell them that they need to think about the action in the advert, and write a script for it.
Tell students they will perform the advert for the class in the next lesson, and can bring in props to help them. Monitor while students are preparing their scripts and help with vocabulary if necessary.
In the next lesson, allow students time to rehearse their adverts in their groups, then ask groups to perform their adverts for the class. You could get the class to vote for the best one.

This activity will help your students to express their own creativity and use personal resources to complete tasks. It will also help them to work appropriately in groups.
