The newspaper headline and its translation from an interdisciplinary point of view ( linguistic, cultural and translation )

The press, as a product of a society, is inspired by the system of values and perceptions of the self and the alien must have within that speech community.
The object of study of this research is a specific language pair (English- Spanish / Spanish -English) and a single address translation (Spanish to English) news from a renowned national newspaper (the digital newspaper Sierra Maestra ) that reports the Cuban reality through the English translation of news previously published on it .

To carry out this research the use of some investigation methods was required; for example:

- Hypothetical- Deductive: to establish and interpret the analytical categories that supports the object of study.
- Analysis-synthesis: this was useful while analyzing the newspapers headlines and the amount of bibliography consulted
- Hermeneutic: for the foundation and development of the theoretical assumptions underlying the theoretical- practical contribution of this research.

   Language and Culture
   

To perform a linguistic analysis of translation difficulties, it is never enough to account for the entire process of linguistic and cultural transfer of information from one language to another that occurs in every act of translation.
Our journalists to write culturally are characterized by:
- Being direct.
- Facing openly problematic issues or difficulties.
- Transmitting the concerns directly.
- Getting into conflict when necessary.
- Expressing views and opinions frankly.
- To say things clearly, leaving no space for a free interpretation.

This is why the translators of newspaper articles to make his work, draw attention not only to what they say but how they say it, besides they also prevent discreetly those compromised or controversial issues, as matters of concern are expressed with tact for this way to avoid conflict as much as possible.

A journalistic translator is not a mere transmitter of information in another language, but it is conditioned by a universe of values ​​and cultural stereotypes that are reflected in his texts creations.

To this we must add the previous selection of the information to be translated. Not everything that is relevant in a specific context (Santiago de Cuba in this case) is of international interest.

If important is the role of the translator in the process of construction of stereotypes in the headlines, no less important is the role of the directives of the newspaper's Sierra Maestra, as Fowler proposes:

A newspaper assumes that there is always only one reasonable point of view on any matter presented. Editorials visibly affirm this point of view; the news and other pages are written to assume that this point of view is natural, common sense, to be taken for granted, not needing to be asserted. (Fowler, 1991: 231)
In analyzing the content of the corpus from a translation point of view, it bring into being that there are some pretty clear guidelines as to what is considered news in the Sierra Maestra digital publications in the English version . News in Santiago de Cuba is more cultural, scientific, economic and sportive, so is little newsworthy considered political aspect unless American actors are involved in the news.
The allusion to cultural stereotypes is obvious, among them are traditionally associated with the city as entertainment , intelligence , solidarity, his Trova music and its carnival , so when the translator choose the news to translate that are representative of Santiago Cuba and its cultural and social life , influences and much in the idea generated of this city abroad.
