MUAYAD (Eng. Muaiyad) – He was one of the beg(noble)s of Babur. He was sent to Badoun among his father’s troop in 1527 [“B”, on folio 329 a].
MUALLO BED (Eng. Salix babylonica) – It is a name of the tree, weeping willow. It is grown for decoration. It belongs to the family of Salicaceae. The bushes usually grow downward of the tree. It blossoms on March-May. Mostly cultural tree.
When Babur was the guest in Herat at palaces of Badiuz-zaman Mirza and Muzaffar Mirza, they showed him artificial willow tree made by craftsmen of Herat [“B”, on folio 190 b].
The word “muallo” was written as “muallih” in Baburnama published in 1960. So, the Russian variant (1993) also translated it as “плакучая ива – мажнунтол”. The word was given as “Salix babylonica” in the book called “Boburnoma”da botanika va zoologiya”.

MUAMMO – It is a literary term of Arabic origin for poetic device. It means to create poem as “riddle or puzzle” which can be found from the context of poem. It is one of the widely spread poetical forms of Oriental lyrical poetry. It mainly consisted of one (rare cases two) baits. If “muammo” poem consists of one bait called mathnavi, if two called rubai.
Babur also created “muammo” poems. There are given 54 Uzbek and one Persian “muammo” poem by unknown author in his “Divan”. M.F.Kupruluzada firstly published 52 out them in her collection “Milliy tatabbular”(1915), and S.Hasanov included them in his collection “Bobur she’riyatidan”(1982).
Babur’s poetry distinguishes with its style, flow rhythm, originality in content and ordinary in solution. There are hidden personal names (Babur, Mu’in, Yusuf, Ibrahim, Kamol and etc), colours (yellow), profession and title (scholar, mehtar) and others symbolically. For instance, for the name of “Babur”:
Eshiging ostonig’a qo’yubon ikki yuzumni,
